History of Augusta Xi

Charter Members

Charter Members [5 of 8] (L-R): Tamica Simmons, Rose Williams, Marilyn Norris, Veronica Tall, and Kenya Walker.

The Chartering of Augusta Xi

On August 19, 2016, we were chartered as the Xi Chapter of Kappa Epsilon Psi Military Sorority, Inc. Two dynamic women, Marilyn Norris and Iasha Nichols, led the efforts towards chartering. Eight dedicated Sorors (Tamica Simmons, Rose Williams, Marilyn Norris, Veronica Tall,  Kenya Walker, Elizabeth Drayton*, Shannee Thomas*, and Iasha Nichols*) completed all expansion requirements ahead of schedule and signed our charter. Their actions officially stood up Augusta Xi as a chapter.

History & Accomplishments

Since the inception of the Augusta Xi Chapter in August 2016, we have labored diligently through community outreach efforts to leave our mark. During Reveille in 2019, the Augusta Xi Chapter received recognition for its members’ hard work and commitment. The Chapter also had numerous substantial promotions. We are inspired and encouraged by all of the great people we meet along the way, working to make this community great!

The Chapter currently has 75+ active members on its roster. Augusta Xi is exceptionally busy in its local communities and is proud to have active memberships on the Augusta Chamber of Commerce and Private Organization affiliation on Fort Gordon, Georgia. We volunteer our time serving on mentorship programs in several local grade schools and service to many local charitable organizations.

Some of the Chapter’s accomplishments to date include:

  • Recipient of the Kappa Epsilon Psi Military Sorority, Inc. Chapter Community Service Award (2016)
  • Launched Sorority's ΚΕΨ Pearls South Pilot Program (2017)
  • Launched Annual Chapter Scholarship (2017)
  • Recipient of the CASA Child Enrichment Spirit of Volunteerism Award (2018)
  • Recipient of the National Philanthropic Day Community Service Award (2018)
  • Recipient of the Rosie the Riveter Award (2019)
  • Soror Ashley McGriff was the recipient of the President's Award (2019)

Charitable Donations

Augusta Xi has made monetary donations to many organizations, including:

  • $1,000 – Jessye Norman School of the Arts - Develops students to become creative and caring visionaries through the arts' transformative power.
  • $1,000 – Concerned Women, Inc. – Provides clothing, household goods, and personal care items locally to those in need.
  • $1,000 – The Lydia Project - Supports women locally dealing with cancer by providing monetary gifts for necessities and a place to stay while undergoing cancer treatment.
  • $1,000 – Cher's Sisters Only Club – Mentors young girls in the local community
  • $250 – Sons of Consolation Ministries – Provides school supplies, backpacks, and Christmas packages to impoverished children. This organization also provides birthday gifts, Christmas presents, and routine visits to the elderly in nursing homes.
  • $250 – Ryan "Stack" Clark Scholarship - Ryan Christopher Clark was raised in Augusta, GA and a 2002 Lakeside High School graduate. Ryan was beloved by so many people for his love of service to his community. He was an active volunteer and music director at Camp Big Heart in Fort Valley, GA. He also served in the Boy Scouts and was a volunteer for Communities in Schools and Golden Harvest Food Bank. After graduating high school Ryan enrolled at Virginia Tech where he triple-majored in Psychology, Biology and English. Ryan was also a beloved member of the Marching Virginians Band at Virginia Tech, where he was affectionately known as “Stack”. He had a perfect 4.0 average and was set to graduate in May 2007. Unfortunately, on April 16, 2007, Ryan’s life was tragically taken when he went to help another student during the Virginia Tech Massacre. His last act on earth was like so many before that: helping others in need.
